Orlando Fals Chair
The Orlando Fals Borda Open Chair was established as a pedagogical strategy to strengthen transformative leadership and community participation through interaction scenarios mediated by digital technologies. This initiative, developed by Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia (UNAD) through the Regional Intersystemic Observatory (OIR), is grounded in the principles of Participatory Action Research (PAR) and a territorial approach, fostering collective knowledge-building among academic, community, business, and institutional actors.
The program consists of synchronous and asynchronous virtual sessions that facilitate experiences related to e-communities, research, action, and community participation.
Through this approach, the program fosters dialogical exchanges aimed at recognizing territorial needs, promoting the social appropriation of knowledge, and formulating alternatives for social transformation aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The initiative demonstrates broad participation from academic, community, business, and institutional actors, as well as high levels of interaction and impact across different regions of the country. Furthermore, the strategy strengthens social leadership, collaborative learning, and the intersubjective construction of knowledge, while recognizing the cultural, social, and territorial particularities of participating communities.
The development of this pedagogical practice demonstrates the importance of participatory methodologies and technological mediation in creating educational spaces for social transformation, community-based knowledge management, and the strengthening of inclusion and territorial development.
