Acinetobacter baumannii, a pathogen that is difficult to control beyond antibiotic resistance
Acinetobacter baumannii is currently considered a highly relevant bacterial pathogen in hospital settings due to its high mortality rate and antimicrobial resistance. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it is considered a critical priority for the first level of consideration for the development of new antibiotics and therapeutic alternatives. Its relevance has been increasing given its plastic genome and ability to mutate under adverse conditions. In addition to its multi-resistant nature, studies have described the presence of various types of virulence factors that increase its ability to cause disease and persist in the environment, supporting its status as a pathogen of importance to public health
