The Amazon Effect: The Anatomy of a Cloud and AI-Powered Giant
Objective. To analyze Amazon as a model of an intelligent and digital organization, identifying how its technological architecture, cloud services, data analytics, and innovation culture contribute to business process transformation, digital talent development, and user experience. Method. A descriptive analysis of Amazon’s technological and organizational structure was conducted, considering three levels of services associated with Amazon Web Services (AWS): Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS). Key transformation enablers related to business processes, people, and digital culture were also examined. Results. The technological architecture analyzed shows the integration of scalable infrastructure services, development environments, and customer-oriented digital solutions. This structure connects e-commerce, logistics, entertainment, robotics, and the Internet of Things within an interconnected ecosystem. Business processes rely on automation and real-time analytical models to support supply chain management and respond to demand. In terms of people, digital skills development initiatives stand out, while the organizational culture is characterized by the “Day 1” philosophy, focused on continuous experimentation, technological autonomy, customer orientation, and data-driven decision-making. Conclusion. The integration of IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS, together with a culture of continuous innovation and digital capability development, creates an organizational model focused on agility, scalability, and adaptation to the challenges of the digital environment.
