The present document corresponds to the first phase of the project “Prototype of a Virtual Laboratory for Training in Special Radiological Studies,” whose purpose is to select a special radiological study that will serve as the basis for designing an interactive academic simulator aimed at training radiologic technologists in diagnostic imaging.

Special studies in conventional radiology are procedures that use barium- or iodine-based contrast media to visualize internal structures of the human body. Despite the advancement of more sophisticated modalities such as computed tomography (CT), in the context of developing countries these studies remain widely applied due to their economic accessibility and technological availability.

Among these procedures, the barium enema retains diagnostic relevance, particularly for the detection and characterization of colorectal cancer.
